There’s no denying that 2018 was a very successful year for Lucy Goes To Hollywood. I met so many wonderful film fans, started writing for , frequently collaborated with podcasts such as , and , and attended a variety of film screenings and events. I never thought I’d be able to achieve all of that in such a short space of time, and I’m so grateful to everyone who has given me these opportunities!
As we enter a new year, it’s time to start thinking about all the things we’d like to achieve over the next 365 days. It can often feel overwhelming, but I think it’s important to set yourself some ambitious yet realistic targets to keep yourself motivated. For me, I want to keep nurturing and growing the blog as best I can.
So, without further ado, here’s what I’m focusing on in 2019:
⋆
1. Reach 5,000 followers on Twitter
I know this number might seem crazy, but I like to give myself a challenge! As I write this, my follower count currently stands at 2,629 so I’ve been slowly yet steadily growing throughout 2018. My follower count isn’t the be all and end all, but I’m making it my mission to interact with Film Twitter and meet more cinephiles.
2. Grow my Instagram following
Most of my audience comes from Twitter, so a big challenge for me is growing my Instagram. If I could reach 1,000 followers by the end of December that would be fantastic, but I definitely need to up my content in 2019. Guess you’d better get used to more selfies and stuff then…
3. Collaborate more
It’s been a pleasure collaborating with some of you and guest starring on podcasts, but I really want to push myself to do it more during 2019. Talking film with many of you has done wonders for my own self-confidence, so I would love that to continue. If you would like to collab, please do shoot me a message!
4. Kickstart the Lucy Goes to Hollywood Podcast
I’ve been banging on about this for a while, but I really want to set up my own podcast as an extension of the blog and invite some film fans to guest. I’ve really fallen in love with podcasting, so what better way to celebrate that than by creating my own? Again, if you want to be a guest, just let me know.
5. Watch more films and actually review them!
It seems obvious, but I want to spend as much time in the cinema as possible next year. I want to get the most out of my Odeon Limitless card and write even more reviews as a result. I posted a fair amount last year, but I want to do even better. I’d like to aim for at least five blog posts every month, but ideally achieve much more than that. In addition, I’d love to write more for Jumpcut too.
6. Be unapologetically me
This one can be applied to both the blog and my personal life, but it’s time to start owning who I am and not bowing down to societal pressures. I’m embracing being a total nerd, a horror fan, a bit of a loser, whatever. I want to be open and honest with you all, and never paint a false picture of myself. What you see is what you get on this blog.
7. Become Rotten Tomatoes Approved
My last goal is probably the most ambitious of all, but I would love to join the RT approved critic squad! I won’t allow myself to become too disheartened if I’m rejected as I can apply again later, but I may as well try. You never know!
⋆
I also want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me and the blog over the past year, I’ve had an absolute blast being part of the film writing community and I can’t wait to see what the year ahead has in store for me. I’m having so much fun with the blog and hope that continues.
I hope you all have a fantastic 2019 filled with lots of lovely things! ♥
Funny, one of my 2019 goals is to collaborate more too…
